You Shape the Human System — Culture, Capability, Sustainability, and Social Licence Start With You
As CPO, your role is not to manage people programs in isolation. It is to ensure the organisation builds the workforce, culture, sustainability posture, and environmental stewardship required for long-term value creation.
This ready reckoner reframes your role from HR leader to chief culture architect, chief capability and workforce strategist, chief sustainability and environment steward, and chief social licence custodian. It translates people and sustainability leadership into observable strategic activities, governance rhythms, verification questions, and evidence confirmation.
When your operating rhythm is strong, culture supports performance, leadership is aligned, capability gaps are addressed, sustainability maturity improves, and community trust strengthens. When it is weak, culture fragments, workforce risk grows, environmental posture weakens, and social licence erodes.
Your role is to ensure people, culture, sustainability, and community stewardship stay aligned to long-term enterprise value.

Conduct a workforce and culture insight scan across engagement, safety culture, leadership behaviours, workforce demographics, DEI, wellbeing, and psychological safety.

Activity and evidence tracker
Use this tracker to rate how strongly each CPO-level strategic criterion is evidenced in practice. Select a level from 0 to 5 for each criterion based on what can be seen, verified, and confirmed through culture stewardship, workforce strategy, wellbeing, sustainability governance, and community trust. The bar shows the current evidence strength. This is not a maturity score. It is a practical assurance check on whether the CPO operating rhythm is functioning at an enterprise people and sustainability stewardship level.
