GM-AM DITLO Ready Reckoner

You Hold the System Together — Asset Strategy, Reliability, and Execution Discipline Start With You

As General Manager – Asset Management, your role is not to lead maintenance in isolation. It is to ensure that asset strategy, reliability, work management, risk control, and operational execution remain aligned to business objectives and long-term value.

This ready reckoner reframes your role from maintenance leader to asset strategy owner, reliability and maintenance system custodian, risk and assurance leader, planning, scheduling and materials governance owner, and operational performance enabler.

When your operating rhythm is strong, asset risks are visible, backlog and planning are healthy, reliability is improving, and daily performance is stable and predictable. When it is weak, execution drifts, risks accumulate, materials fail the workfront, and long-horizon asset value is lost.

Your role is to ensure that asset strategy, maintenance discipline, reliability, and operational stability work together as one system.

Strategic role criteria

The GM-AM strategic windows

Window 1 · Asset Insight, Risk Posture & Operational Stability

Understand asset health, operational risk, and performance signals.

  • Review asset health indicators, critical asset risk, condition monitoring signals, RCM strategy alignment, and failure mode trends.
  • Interpret value-at-risk through asset availability, OEE impacts, and safety-critical control performance.
  • Review backlog health, schedule compliance, work execution quality, permit and access conflicts, and materials readiness for critical jobs.

Window 2 · Reliability, Planning, Scheduling & Materials Governance

Strengthen the asset management system and remove execution barriers.

  • Lead reliability strategy execution through RCM reviews, strategy optimisation, CBM/PdM coverage improvement, and chronic failure elimination.
  • Govern planning and scheduling maturity through planning quality, kitting completeness, frozen week discipline, and work management standards.
  • Oversee materials and spares strategy, BOM completeness, lead time risks, and critical spares posture.

Window 3 · Governance, Assurance, Improvement & Capability

Strengthen governance, uplift capability, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Conduct AM system governance reviews across ISO 55001 alignment, assurance findings, MoC impacts, and engineering deviations.
  • Lead improvement programs across chronic failure elimination, planning and scheduling uplift, digital adoption, and asset strategy optimisation.
  • Build capability and culture by coaching planners, schedulers, reliability engineers, and strengthening AM literacy.
