You Hold Production Stability Together — Safe Throughput, Loss Elimination, and Frontline Alignment Start With You
As Operations Manager, your role is not to supervise production activity in isolation. It is to ensure safe, stable, predictable operations, disciplined short interval control, early escalation of operational risks, and strong alignment between operations, maintenance, engineering, and planning.
This ready reckoner reframes your role from production supervisor of supervisors to production stability leader, operational risk custodian, loss elimination driver, frontline capability builder, and daily coordination and alignment hub.
When your operating rhythm is strong, throughput is stable, operators are supported, production losses are visible and acted on, and daily coordination is disciplined. When it is weak, constraints linger, losses repeat, supervisors drift, and production stability erodes value.
Your role is to ensure that operations run safely, within control, and with clear visibility of losses, risks, and required action.
Ensure safe, stable, predictable operations and protect throughput.
Interpret operational risk signals through critical controls, permit risks, asset condition threats, and environmental compliance.
Identify emerging production risks and escalate issues to GM Ops, Asset Manager, and Maintenance Manager.
Lead or attend Tier 1 and Tier 2 meetings, review production performance versus plan, throughput bottlenecks, operator readiness, permits, safety interactions, and field observations.
Window 2 · Loss Elimination, Coordination & Short Interval Control
Drive disciplined operations and eliminate production losses.
Identify systemic production losses including speed losses, quality losses, and availability losses.
Lead short interval control and review yesterday's top losses, the constraint of the day, operator performance, and process deviations.
Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, planning, and projects while ensuring SOPs, operating envelopes, shift logs, and handovers are controlled.
Strengthen operational discipline, uplift capability, and support continuous improvement.
Support GM Ops with operational governance and participate in assurance reviews.
Review compliance with SOPs, critical controls, environmental requirements, and permit systems.
Conduct field audits, coach supervisors and operators, support improvement projects, and validate operator training and competency.

Activity and evidence tracker
Use this tracker to rate how strongly each Operations Manager criterion is evidenced in practice. Select a level from 0 to 5 for each criterion based on what can be seen, verified, and confirmed through production stability, throughput delivery, loss elimination, short interval control, coordination with maintenance, environmental compliance, and frontline coaching. The bar shows the current evidence strength. This is not a maturity score. It is a practical assurance check on whether the Operations Manager operating rhythm is functioning across its 20 percent strategic and 80 percent operational tactical span.
